PERSONAL PROJECT — FULL-STACK DEVELOPMENT
LumiXplore
A platform for discovering movies and TV shows, exploring personalized recommendations, and finding where to watch them. An experience that combines interface design, web development, and external service integrations.
A new way to discover what to watch
The challenge
Discovering movies and TV shows can involve browsing different platforms, searching for recommendations, and figuring out where each title is available. I wanted to explore how to bring that information together in a more intuitive experience.
The solution
Design and develop a platform that makes audiovisual content easier to explore through recommendations, categories, personal lists, and information about the streaming platforms where each title is available.
Features that make a difference
Discover content based on your mood
Explore movies and TV shows through emotions and feelings, such as fantasy, adrenaline, horror, or happiness.
Recommendation of the day
A different content suggestion for each user that remains available throughout the day, making discovery easier.
Your personal watchlist
Save movies and TV shows you're interested in so you can revisit them later and organize what you want to watch.
Find out where to watch
Check which streaming platforms offer a particular movie or TV show.
From concept to implementation
Design and user experience
LumiXplore started with a simple idea: making audiovisual content discovery an engaging and intuitive experience. The design features its own visual identity, straightforward navigation, mood-based exploration, and components that present movies and TV shows in a clear, dynamic way.
Architecture and development
The project is built with React and TypeScript on the frontend, alongside Node.js, Express, and PostgreSQL for server-side logic and data persistence. Integration with TMDB provides information about movies, TV shows, and streaming platforms.

Technical decisions and challenges
01 / ARCHITECTURE
Architecture decisions
I separated the frontend and backend to organize the application's responsibilities. I used React and TypeScript to build the interface, Express to develop the API, and PostgreSQL to manage the data. I also implemented session-based authentication using HTTP-only cookies.
02 / IMPLEMENTATION
Implementation challenges
Some of the main challenges included integrating TMDB data into a custom interface, managing user sessions correctly, and designing a daily recommendation that remains consistent throughout the day while being different for each user.
Results and lessons learned
The outcome
LumiXplore became a functional platform that brings together movie and TV show discovery, personalized recommendations, watchlists, and streaming service information. The result combines a distinctive visual identity with a full-stack architecture built from scratch.
What I learned
This project allowed me to deepen my understanding of complete application development, from interface design to data management, authentication, and external API integration. It also strengthened my ability to make technical decisions and overcome challenges while maintaining a consistent user experience.
